Here's where the technology stands and what's worth your money.

But the interesting number is the airbag segment: airbag jackets and vests are growing at 15-18% CAGR — the fastest-growing category in motorcycle safety. Helmets still lead the market with 25% share, but airbags are where the innovation money is flowing.

Translation: manufacturers see airbags as the next mandatory safety item, the way ABS became standard on motorcycles. We're early in that curve, which means prices are coming down and options are expanding fast.

With 200,000+ km (124,000+ mi) of lifetime riding — including that Ottawa rear-end collision — the data is clear: airbag vests reduce chest and spinal injuries significantly.
