Robotic pool cleaners have come a long way in the past few years — and the budget end of the market has gotten surprisingly competitive. The Wybot C1 showed up on my radar as one of the more talked-about options under $500 CAD, promising full-pool coverage including walls and waterline without the premium price tag of brands like Dolphin or Maytronics.

I put it through its paces in a real pool across multiple cleaning cycles. Here's the honest breakdown.

Wybot C1 Robotic Pool Cleaner (2026 Upgrade)

150-min runtime · Wall & waterline cleaning · App control · Works above & in-ground

What Is the Wybot C1?

The Wybot C1 is a cordless robotic pool cleaner designed for both above-ground and in-ground pools up to 1,615 sq. ft. It's a fully autonomous unit — drop it in, select a mode, and it navigates the pool floor, climbs the walls, and scrubs the waterline without any hoses, additional pumps, or plumbing connections needed.

The 2026 upgraded version adds a 5-mode cleaning system (full pool, floor only, wall only, wall-then-floor, and Eco floor), smart app control over Bluetooth, and a self-parking feature that drives the robot near the pool wall when the session ends so you can retrieve it easily.

Setup & First Impressions

Out of the box, setup is as simple as it gets. No installation, no plumbing, no extra hardware — you charge it, download the app, connect via Bluetooth, and drop it in. The build quality feels solid for the price point. It's heavier than expected at 17.6 lbs, which is actually a good sign — it has the mass to maintain contact with pool walls.

"No hoses, no plumbing, no setup complexity. Charge it, connect the app, drop it in — that's genuinely it."

The top-loading filter is a nice design choice. You pop the lid, lift the filter basket out, rinse it off, and snap it back in. Much easier than units that require partial disassembly to clean the filter after every session.

Real-Pool Cleaning Performance

In full-pool mode, the C1 follows an S-path navigation pattern across the floor before transitioning to walls. In a standard rectangular in-ground pool, coverage was thorough — it hit corners multiple times and left no obvious dead zones on the floor after a single 90-minute cycle.

The 3,038 GPH suction handled leaves, fine sand, and general debris without trouble. Fine particles — the stuff that clouds a pool after a week — got pulled into the 180μm filter effectively. The filter did need rinsing after each session, but that's expected and takes about 30 seconds.

Wall Climbing & Waterline

This is where budget robots usually fall short — and where the C1 genuinely surprised me. The wall-climbing mechanism works by using the main motor to jet water outward, creating a reaction force that keeps the unit pressed against the wall as it climbs. In testing, it consistently made it up the pool walls and scrubbed the waterline on every pass in wall mode.

That said, wall performance can vary depending on pool surface texture and water chemistry. On smoother surfaces it performed best. On textured surfaces there was occasional slippage, though it self-corrected and continued. If your pool has an unusual shape or steep slope at the waterline, the included float kit attachment is worth using.

App Control

The WYBOT app is one of the better control interfaces I've seen at this price. You can select your cleaning mode, set a weekly cleaning schedule (up to 4 cycles per week), check battery status, and receive firmware updates over-the-air. It paired quickly and the connection stayed stable throughout testing.

The ability to set a weekly schedule is genuinely useful — you can have the pool cleaned automatically before you wake up on Saturday morning without touching it. For a budget robot, that level of automation is impressive.

Battery & Runtime

The 150-minute rated runtime held up in real-world use. For an average-sized backyard pool, one full cycle is enough to complete the job with battery to spare. The 3-hour recharge time is on the slower side, but not a dealbreaker — you're unlikely to need back-to-back cycles on the same day. At the end of each session, the self-parking feature drives the robot to the pool wall so you can grab it without fishing around with a pole.

"150 minutes was more than enough for a complete clean — the robot parked itself near the edge when it was done, battery still showing charge."

Verdict – Worth It in Canada?

For the price, the Wybot C1 delivers more than you'd expect. The wall-climbing actually works, the app is well done, coverage is thorough, and the cordless design means no hose management headaches. It won't outperform a $2,000 Dolphin in every situation — but it gets the job done consistently and makes pool maintenance dramatically easier week-to-week.

If you've been manually vacuuming your pool every week and looking for a robot that won't break the bank, the C1 is a legitimate option worth considering, especially with the 2-year warranty backing it up.
