The return of the small Bonnie

Triumph has announced the all-new Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, the most accessible variants of the most iconic nameplate the brand makes. The Bonneville dates to 1959, and the T40 keeps the bloodline obvious: teardrop tank with hand-painted coach lining, classic round headlight, spoked wheels, twin-shock rear suspension, aluminum engine covers, and the brushed peashooter silencer. Heritage two-tone schemes include Meriden Blue with Tangerine Orange and New England White with Jet Black. The T40 Black blackens the details for the darker look.

Engine and numbers

The T40 runs the latest version of Triumph's liquid-cooled 400cc TR Series single, with a revised cylinder head and a dedicated Bonneville tune. Peak power is 30 bhp at 7,000 rpm, with peak torque of 26.55 lb-ft (36 Nm) at 5,000 rpm and a clear single-cylinder exhaust note. The point is usable everyday performance, not a spec-sheet shootout: the tune focuses on accessible torque at engine speeds you actually use around town and on backroads.

Sneaky tech under the retro

The classic styling hides a genuinely modern electronics package:

Seat, weight, and confidence

The seat sits at 31.1 inches (790 mm), dropping to 30.3 inches (770 mm) with the accessory low seat, and curb weight is 421 pounds (191 kg). Add the relaxed upright riding position, the bench seat, and a center stand, and the T40 reads like a bike aimed squarely at newer riders and returning riders, while staying flickable enough that experienced riders will not get bored. For anyone who finds a full-size Bonneville or a midweight cruiser intimidating, this is the friendliest door into the Triumph family.

Pricing and availability

Pricing will be announced in early 2027, ahead of the first bikes reaching dealerships in late spring 2027. There is no Canadian or U.S. pricing yet, and Triumph has not confirmed market-by-market availability, so treat every dollar figure you see right now as speculation. What is confirmed is the bike itself, and it brings the Bonneville name to a segment where riders actually start.
