Best Motorcycle Helmet Camera 2026 — I've Ridden With All of Them

By Greg Toope  ·  June 5, 2026  ·  9 min read

I've been mounting cameras to helmets since before it was cool and before mounts were actually good. Over the last few years — 150,000 km (93,000 miles) across multiple bikes — I've run the Insta360 Go3S, two Ace Pro 2s, two X5s, and a DJI setup. I know what works at highway speed, in wind noise hell, and on 12-hour touring days on my Indian Pursuit.

This isn't a spec sheet comparison. This is what actually matters when you're two hours from home and the wind sounds like a jet engine in your footage.

What Actually Matters for Motorcycle Cameras

Most camera reviews talk about specs. Motorcycle riding changes the equation entirely. Here's what I actually care about after thousands of kilometres of real-world helmet footage:

Insta360 Go3S — Best Dedicated Helmet Camera

This is the one I use most consistently on my Indian Pursuit. The Go3S is small enough to mount inside a visor port, on a chin bar, or magnetically on the side of the helmet without adding meaningful weight. The 4K footage is sharp, and Insta360's wind noise processing is genuinely the best I've tested at highway speeds.

"The Go3S is the only camera I've used where the wind noise at highway speed is actually manageable without post-processing."

Insta360 Ace Pro 2 — Best for Full-Featured Shooting

I run two of these — one on the bike and one on the helmet for specific shots. The Ace Pro 2 is a proper action camera with a flip screen, which is rare in this category. If you want one camera that does helmet POV, handlebar mount, and hand-held vlogging, this is it.

Insta360 X5 — Best 360° Option for Motorcycle

The X5 on a selfie stick mounted to the bike creates footage that looks like it has a drone following you — without the drone. It's the camera I use for sweeping scenic shots on touring days when the road itself is the star. The 8K dual-lens footage in 2026 is genuinely cinematic.

GoPro HERO13 — The Benchmark Everyone Compares To

GoPro invented this category and the HERO13 is still excellent. The ecosystem of mounts is unmatched — if you ride with other people, everyone has GoPro mounts lying around. The Max Lens Mod gives you a field of view that's genuinely competitive with 360° cameras for a fraction of the weight.

Where it falls short for me: wind noise handling is noticeably worse than Insta360's current lineup, and the mount system requires more commitment than a magnetic setup. But if you're already in the GoPro ecosystem, the HERO13 holds up completely.

🏆 My Recommendations by Use Case

My personal setup on the Indian Pursuit: Go3S on the helmet, Ace Pro 2 on the chin bar or handlebar, X5 on a side mount for scenic sections. Three cameras, three different perspectives, one ride.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best motorcycle helmet camera in 2026?

The Insta360 Go3S is the best dedicated helmet camera for motorcyclists in 2026 — it's tiny, the magnetic mount works with any helmet, and the wind noise processing at highway speed is genuinely the best available.

Is GoPro or Insta360 better for motorcycle riding?

Insta360 has the edge for motorcycle use in 2026. The magnetic mounts, wind noise reduction, and the Go3S form factor make it the better choice for helmet mounting specifically. GoPro is still excellent if you're already invested in that ecosystem.

Can I mount a camera on any motorcycle helmet?

Yes — the Insta360 Go3S magnetic mount system works on nearly any helmet without drilling. For chin-bar mounting, a standard J-hook or 3M adhesive mount works on any smooth surface.

How do I reduce wind noise in motorcycle helmet camera footage?

Three things help most: 1) mount the camera behind the windshield or fairing when possible, 2) use foam wind covers on the microphone, 3) choose a camera with AI wind noise reduction — the Insta360 lineup handles this better than anything else in 2026.
