RedRoad S1 Robot Pool Cleaner Review — Does It Actually Work?

Robot pool cleaners have come a long way in the last few years — and the budget end of the market has gotten genuinely interesting. The RedRoad S1 was sent to me for review, and as always, the opinions here are entirely my own. No one told me what to say.

The short version: it's a capable cleaner for the price, with a few quirks worth knowing about before you buy. Here's the full breakdown.

What Is the RedRoad S1?

The S1 is a cordless robotic pool cleaner designed for above-ground and in-ground pools. It runs on a rechargeable battery, navigates autonomously, and focuses on thorough floor cleaning. At its price point it's competing with entry-level Dolphin and Wybot units — which is a tough bracket to stand out in.

Setup and First Use

Out of the box setup is straightforward — charge it, drop it in, press the button. No app required for basic operation, which is a genuine plus. The charging dock is simple and the indicator lights are clear. First clean cycle took about 90 minutes on my pool and it covered the floor thoroughly on the first pass.

Cleaning Performance

On the floor it does a solid job. Fine debris, leaves, and general sediment all get picked up consistently. The filter basket is easy to access and clean — pop the top, pull the basket, rinse it out. Simple.

It's a floor-only cleaner — no wall climbing. If you're looking for something that scrubs the walls and waterline too, you'll need to look at a higher-end unit or handle that manually. For floor cleaning though, it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

Battery Life

Battery life is adequate for a standard pool — rated for about 90-120 minutes per charge which covers one full cycle for most residential pools. Charging takes a few hours. Not a complaint for the price, just worth knowing so you're not expecting commercial-grade runtime.

Build Quality

It feels reasonably solid for a budget unit. The plastic isn't premium but it doesn't feel cheap either. The brushes and filter are accessible and look easy to replace when the time comes. Time will tell on long-term durability — I'll follow up after a full season.

The Verdict

If you want a hassle-free robot cleaner that handles floor debris well, the RedRoad S1 delivers real value at its price point. It's a floor-only unit — no walls — but for what it does it works reliably without fuss. It's not going to replace a high-end unit, but for a budget buy it does the job without fuss. Worth considering if you're in the market.
