The Canadian iPhone Duo price ladder

The sticker price is not the checkout price

New Brunswick's official HST rate is 15 percent. That pushes the base 256GB Duo to $3,448.85 CAD and the 2TB version to $5,518.85 CAD. Cases are extra: Apple lists its standard Duo Case at $99 CAD and its Folio with Kickstand at $179 CAD.

The jump between storage tiers is also unusually steep. Moving from 256GB to 2TB adds $1,800 CAD. The 2TB model is 60 percent more expensive than the already costly base version.

Who is actually paying these prices?

The most obvious customer is someone who wants Apple's first foldable because it is new, distinctive, and expensive enough to feel exclusive. Value per dollar is not the main calculation. Being first is.

A 7.6-inch inner display can make email, documents, multitasking, video calls, and presentations easier without carrying a separate tablet. Apple will sell plenty because it is the first foldable iPhone. That does not make it sensible for the average Canadian. At these prices, “Who is paying for this?” is not a throwaway complaint. It is the central buying question.
