GetMax sent this one over for review, and I'll be straight with you: I'm an Apple TV guy. Plug it in, sign in, everything just works. The GetMax G12 is a different philosophy entirely — it's for people who want the full Android experience and are willing to dig in to unlock free entertainment. Whether that's appealing or exhausting depends entirely on who you are.
The G12 is an Android 12 TV box aimed at cord-cutters who want access to live TV channels, VOD content, and streaming apps without a monthly subscription. GetMax markets it around 8K output support, WiFi 6 connectivity, and access to over 1,000 live TV channels and 60,000+ movies and shows. It comes with a wireless remote, supports voice search, and can be controlled from your smartphone.
Out of the box you get the G12, a remote, and an 8K HDMI cable. There's a 5% discount code (G8FEE3BS) available at the GetMax store directly, and they've been bundling a wireless keyboard with touchpad as a bonus gift — which actually makes sense on Android where you sometimes need to type things out.

Here's the honest truth about Android TV boxes: they reward people who like to tinker. If you enjoy side-loading apps, exploring APKs, customizing your setup, and hunting down free streams — this kind of device is genuinely fun. You have full Android access, which means you can install almost anything and configure it however you want.
If that sounds like work rather than entertainment, it probably is. The G12 isn't a set-it-and-forget-it device. The free content is there, but finding it, organizing it, and keeping it working takes some effort. Availability of certain streams can also change over time depending on region and provider.
"The G12 is for people who want Android freedom. If you just want to hit a button and watch something — Apple TV or Roku is the right call."
The big pitch here is no monthly subscription. And to be fair, the G12 does deliver on that. The 1,000+ live channels include 53 Canadian-specific channels, and the VOD library is genuinely large. The 7-day playback window on select channels is a nice touch if you miss something.
The caveat is that "free" in the Android box world often means navigating grey areas — content legality, stream reliability, and app support can all vary. GetMax markets this for informational and entertainment purposes, and availability can change. Go in with clear expectations.
