Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November, which sounds close until you count what three weeks of November means for a rider with a camera-shaped hole in the kit. Here is how to decide, without the deal-roundup noise.

The dates, exactly

Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, 27 November. It is the day after US Thanksgiving, which lands on Thursday, 26 November. Cyber Monday follows on Monday, 30 November, and the core sale weekend that most retailers price around runs Saturday 28 to Sunday 29 November.

What that means in practice: the three-week countdown you are in right now, in early November, is not the discount window. It is the run-up, which is when early Black Friday events start appearing. Retailers advertise those mid-November sales ahead of the main date, and the prices in them are usually a preview of the real ones rather than the floor.

What actually changes on the day

Camera gear is one of the categories where Black Friday pricing is real rather than a sticker that never moved. Action cameras, memory cards and accessories discount because the manufacturers and the large retailers both use the weekend to clear stock before the new year's models land. That is the opposite of, say, a current-model phone, where the price barely moves because the demand does not need help.

The distinction that matters for a buying decision is between a product at the end of its cycle and one that launched in the last few months. Anything announced this autumn is unlikely to be discounted by much, because there is no stock pressure and no reason to cut. Anything a generation old is where the movement shows up.

The cost of waiting

Waiting is not free. Three weeks of November riding in Atlantic Canada is a real amount of the season, and a camera bought on 27 November is a camera that spends most of its first months indoors. If the gear you want is for filming the riding you are doing now, the discount has to beat the footage you would lose, and in most years it does not.

There is also a stock problem nobody plans for. The popular action camera bundles sell out during the sale weekend, and a sold-out bundle at a good price is worth less than a full-price one you can actually use. If you have a specific kit in mind, the discount is only useful if it is in stock when you click.

The decision rule

Two questions settle it. First: does the thing you want exist today at a price you would accept without a sale? If yes, buy it and stop reading. A camera you use for three extra weeks is usually worth more than the difference you might save.

Second: is the model you want due for replacement? If the current version is a year or more old, or a successor has been announced, the 27 November window is genuinely worth waiting for, because that is exactly the stock the sale exists to clear. If it launched in the last few months, waiting buys you very little.

The short version: gear you need to film November with, buy now. Gear whose replacement is already announced, wait for 27 November and check stock early that morning.

Three traps in the sale weekend

The first is the fake reference price. A retailer that lists a product as forty percent off a figure nobody ever charged is not discounting. Check the price history, or check what the manufacturer lists it at, before deciding the number is good.

The second is the bundle that is not a bundle. Memory cards and cases thrown into an action camera kit are often the cheapest version of both. Work out what the bare item costs with a card you would actually buy, then compare.

The third is the refurbished listing that appears next to the new one at a price that looks like a sale. Refurbished is fine if it is labelled and warrantied, and a problem if it is not. Read the condition line before the price line.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Black Friday 2026?

Friday, 27 November 2026, the day after US Thanksgiving on Thursday, 26 November.

When is Cyber Monday 2026?

Monday, 30 November 2026.

Should I wait for Black Friday to buy a camera?

If the model is a year or more old, or a replacement has been announced, waiting for 27 November usually pays. If it launched in the last few months, the discount is likely small and waiting costs you weeks of use.

Are early Black Friday sales worth it?

They are usually a preview rather than the floor. Retailers advertise early events from mid-November, but the deepest prices typically appear across the 27-29 November weekend.
