Saturday sprint
Marc Marquez struck back at the Mobility Resort Motegi on Saturday, taking sprint victory over Jorge Martin by more than a second. With the title fight tightening, the sprint's 12 points were the opening move of a weekend that would end with the championship lead nearly erased.
Sunday Grand Prix results
Marquez did it again on Sunday, winning the Grand Prix with Martin second. The full result:
- 1. Marc Marquez
- 2. Jorge Martin
- 3. Marco Bezzecchi
- 4. Enea Bastianini
A 1-2 for the two title contenders, again, with the same order in both the sprint and the race. Bezzecchi's podium made it a strong weekend for the VR46 camp as well.
What it does to the championship
The double victory cuts Jorge Martin's championship lead to two points, with six races remaining. That is effectively a dead heat: one bad corner, one crash, one gamble on tires in changeable conditions, and the lead flips. For a rider as experienced in title fights as Marquez, two points is nothing over six rounds, and the momentum from a perfect weekend is worth more than the arithmetic shows.
Where the season goes next
Six races remain on the 2026 calendar, and every one of them is now a straight duel. The next round is the critical one: if Marquez leaves it with the lead, Martin faces the harder math. Watch for qualifying form first, because at this point in the season, starting ahead of your rival is half the battle.
