Can-Am Display Recall: Which Bikes Need the September 2026 Update?

What happened?

BRP posted a safety recall dated September 15, 2026 for the touchscreen instrument cluster used on certain Can-Am motorcycles and three-wheelers. This is not just a frozen navigation map: BRP says the cluster can reset, freeze, or stay blank when a USB or Bluetooth connection triggers a communication failure or memory leak. That could hide speed and other important warnings. During a reset, turn signals and hazard lights may briefly stop responding. The physical telltales continue to work, according to BRP, but they are not a substitute for a functioning display.

The timely takeaway is simple: if you ride one of the model-year groups below, check the VIN, then make sure the cluster software has been updated. This is a report on BRP’s safety notice, not a hands-on diagnosis of anyone’s machine.

Which models are listed?

A model year on this list does not prove that a particular VIN is affected. BRP explicitly warns that not every vehicle in a listed model-year group is necessarily included. Ryker is not on these two notices. BRP’s US notices identify NHTSA campaign 26V-575; Canadian owners should verify their own VIN through BRP or a local authorized dealer rather than assume US campaign details automatically describe Canadian registration.

Why this matters on a real ride

A display going blank can remove speed and warning information when a rider is making decisions in traffic. The separate turn-signal and hazard-light behaviour matters too: a temporary reset may mean following drivers cannot read your intentions. That is why this is a safety recall rather than a cosmetic software patch.

If the display fails while moving, focus on maintaining control and finding a safe place to stop. Avoid treating a reboot as proof the issue is resolved. BRP’s prescribed remedy is the updated cluster software, and the VIN check determines whether your machine is covered. I would not recommend experimenting with USB or Bluetooth connections while riding to try to reproduce the fault.

The free fix: OTA or dealer

BRP says the updated cluster software has been available since September 16, 2026. The required version is BRP Connect V6.0.0 or higher. Owners may install it over the air or book an authorized Can-Am dealer to install it free of charge. BRP estimates a 10–20 minute download and installation, depending on connection speed, but leave time to follow the on-screen instructions properly rather than starting just before a ride.

For a wireless update, BRP specifies a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; the touchscreen does not connect to 5 GHz. A phone hotspot can work if set to 2.4 GHz. On an iPhone, BRP says to enable “Maximize Compatibility”; on Android, choose the 2.4 GHz hotspot band. BRP also says the network must have a password and neither the network name nor password may contain special characters or spaces. If the OTA route fails or you would rather not handle it yourself, use the dealer option.

How to check before your next ride

1. Find the vehicle’s 17-character VIN on the vehicle, insurance documents, or registration.
2. Use BRP’s recall lookup, then confirm applicability with an authorized BRP dealer, particularly if you are in Canada.
3. If affected, install BRP Connect V6.0.0 or higher using BRP’s official instructions, or arrange a free dealer update.
4. After installation, verify the displayed software version and ask your dealer to confirm the recall is closed for your VIN.

Do not wait for a letter if your VIN check shows an open safety campaign. BRP’s owner notice and dealer are the authority for your particular vehicle. If you ride an Indian like mine, this is still a useful reminder that recall research is brand- and VIN-specific: my motorcycle is not on this Can-Am list.
