Atlantic Canada is one of the most underrated motorcycle touring destinations in North America. Four provinces, thousands of kilometres of coastal roads, almost no traffic on the best routes, and some of the best seafood on the planet. This is the list I'm working through — updated as I ride more of it.

The Ultimate Atlantic Canada Motorcycle Bucket List

Roads

🏍️
New Brunswick

Fundy Trail Parkway

The best road in NB. Clifftop coastal riding along the Bay of Fundy. Stop at Big Salmon River.

🏍️
New Brunswick

Route 114 — Hopewell Rocks Loop

Winding through Fundy National Park to the highest tides in the world. Time it for low tide.

🏍️
Nova Scotia

Cabot Trail — Counter-clockwise

The must-do. Ride counter-clockwise so the cliffs are on your left. Go in June or September to avoid peak traffic.

🏍️
Nova Scotia

Lighthouse Route — Highway 3 South Shore

Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Chester. The quintessential Nova Scotia coastal road.

🏍️
Prince Edward Island

North Shore — Route 6

Red sand, ocean views, PEI National Park. Stop at Richard's Fresh Seafood in Covehead.

🏍️
Prince Edward Island

Route 209 into Point Prim

Winding coastal road to the southern tip. Best at sunset. Point Prim Chowder House is the reward.

🏍️
Newfoundland

Viking Trail — Route 430

Western Newfoundland's crown jewel. Gros Morne, fjords, table mountains, L'Anse aux Meadows.

🏍️
Newfoundland

Avalon Peninsula Loop

St. John's, Cape St. Mary's, Salmonier — rugged, dramatic, and completely unlike anywhere else.

Lighthouses

🔦
New Brunswick

Cape Enrage Lighthouse

Perched on a cliff above the Bay of Fundy. One of the most dramatic lighthouse settings in Atlantic Canada.

🔦
Prince Edward Island

West Point Lighthouse

Western anchor of the PEI Coastal 4 Corners ride. Iconic striped tower with great ocean views.

🔦
Prince Edward Island

East Point Lighthouse

Easternmost point of PEI. Quiet, uncrowded, and genuinely beautiful.

🔦
Nova Scotia

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

Iconic. Crowded in summer. Go at sunrise to have it to yourself. Worth it.

🔦
Newfoundland

Cape St. Mary's

A seabird colony on a sea stack off the cliff edge. Not a road trip stop — a destination.

Ferries

⛴️
Prince Edward Island

Confederation Bridge — Ride it westbound

13 km over the Northumberland Strait. Toll is westbound only (~$52 motorcycle + rider). The views from the bridge are excellent on a clear day — and unnerving in the wind.

⛴️
Newfoundland

Marine Atlantic — North Sydney to Port aux Basques

Overnight crossing of the Cabot Strait. Book a cabin. The experience is part of the trip.

⛴️
Prince Edward Island

Wood Islands Ferry — PEI to Pictou, NS

Seasonal. A much more scenic crossing than the bridge with a great arrival into Nova Scotia.

Hidden Food Stops

🦞
Prince Edward Island

Richard's Fresh Seafood — Covehead

Local institution on the North Shore. Fresh seafood, no frills, worth every bite.

🦞
Prince Edward Island

Point Prim Chowder House

End-of-day reward at the southern tip. The chowder is the real deal.

🦞
New Brunswick

Shediac Lobster — anywhere in Shediac

The self-proclaimed lobster capital of the world. The claim holds up. Multiple spots to choose from.

🦞
Nova Scotia

Wharfside Dining — Lunenburg

Fresh fish and seafood with harbour views. Lunenburg is worth a half-day stop regardless.

Viewpoints and Photo Stops

📸
New Brunswick

Hopewell Rocks at Low Tide

Walk on the ocean floor. The "flowerpot" rock formations are genuinely otherworldly.

📸
Nova Scotia

Cabot Trail Mountain Lookoffs

Multiple pull-offs on the north section with views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Every one is worth stopping for.

📸
Newfoundland

Gros Morne — Tablelands

Rust-coloured earth that looks like Mars. One of the most unusual landscapes in the country.

📸
Prince Edward Island

Basin Head Provincial Park

The "Singing Sands" — red cliffs, white sand, and turquoise water. Quiet except in peak summer.

Challenge Rides

🏆
New Brunswick

New Brunswick 4 Corners Ride

St. Andrews, Confederation Bridge, Miscou Island, and Lac Baker. A legit one-day challenge route.

🏆
Prince Edward Island

PEI Coastal 4 Corners Ride

West Point, North Shore, East Point, Point Prim — 430–490 km, four lighthouses, one day.

🏆
Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia 4 Corners Tour

Cabot Trail north, Fortress of Louisbourg east, Brier Island west, Clark's Harbour south.

This list will grow. Atlantic Canada has more roads, more lighthouses, more hidden spots than any reasonable bucket list can hold. But these are the ones worth starting with — and every single one of them is worth the ride to get there.
