AliExpress Motorcycle Gear — What's Safe to Buy and What to Avoid

AliExpress has become a go-to source for motorcycle accessories, and for good reason — the prices are wild compared to brand-name alternatives. A set of Klock Werks Flare Wings for the Indian Pursuit runs $150-200 CAD. The AliExpress equivalent? $25-40 shipped. That kind of price gap makes it impossible to ignore.

But some things you absolutely should not cheap out on when it comes to motorcycles. After testing a range of AliExpress moto gear over the past year, here's my honest verdict on what's worth ordering and what to leave in the cart.

⚠️ The golden rule: Never buy safety-critical gear from AliExpress. Helmets, jackets with armour, gloves, boots — buy these from reputable brands with real certifications. Everything else is fair game to evaluate on price vs. value.

Accessories — Generally Safe to Buy Cheap

✓ Buy it

Wind deflectors and flare wings: Community reports on the knockoff Klock Werks Flare Wings are consistently positive — fit is good, acrylic quality is acceptable, and wind protection is comparable to the genuine article. Save the $120+ and go the AliExpress route.

✓ Buy it

Bar end weights and grips: These are low-stress parts with no safety implications. The $8 AliExpress bar ends work just as well as $40 OEM alternatives. Same with grips — as long as you check fitment carefully before ordering.

✓ Buy it

Phone mounts and GPS holders: RAM Mount alternatives from AliExpress work fine for most use cases. Rider forums consistently report them holding up through multiple seasons. The genuine RAM system is better quality, but at 10% of the price the AliExpress version is hard to argue with.

⚠ Maybe

Luggage and saddlebag inserts: Quality varies enormously. Some AliExpress luggage liners are genuinely excellent; others have zippers that fail within a season. Read reviews carefully and order from sellers with 4.8+ ratings and 1000+ reviews.

Parts — Be More Careful

⚠ Maybe

Brake and clutch levers: Technically not safety-critical in the same way as helmets, but close. If you're buying budget levers, stick with established brands like Volar or CNC Racing rather than completely unknown AliExpress sellers. A lever that snaps under braking is not something you want to discover mid-corner.

✗ Avoid

Brake pads: Not worth the risk. Stick with OEM or a name brand like EBC or Galfer. Brake pad failure is catastrophic. Save money elsewhere.

✗ Avoid

Electrical components (switches, relays, wiring harnesses): Cheap electrical parts are a real fire risk on a motorcycle. AliExpress switches and relays use low-quality metals that corrode and fail unpredictably. This is a false economy.

The Bottom Line

AliExpress is a legitimate tool for saving money on motorcycle accessories — just use it smartly. Cosmetic and comfort items? Go for it. Safety-critical parts and electrical components? Spend the money on quality. The savings on accessories can fund the quality purchases that actually matter.
